Unemployed hotel workers are desperately waiting for help
Pattaya. An eagerly awaited discussion in Pattaya between tourism industry associations and representatives of the local government ended with no results.
The meeting between representatives of the tourism industry, Pattaya's mayor Sonthaya Kunplome, the deputy minister of culture Poramet Ngampichet and a representative of the social security office did not produce any concrete results. It was only promised to help those affected by the semi-lockdown.
Poramet argued that unemployment insurance was already burdened by a recession before Covid-19. It is also difficult for officials to decide how to help hotels, as they house a range of different businesses such as spas, restaurants and souvenir shops. Leonard Brix
